8020's First Magazine: JPG!

Posted by Derek Powazek on 5 September 2006 (8020 Publishing)

JPG MagazineWe're extremely thrilled to announce that the first magazine to be published by 8020 is going to be JPG, the magazine of brave new photography!

JPG was started by Heather Champ and Derek Powazek two years ago, with a mission to publish the best new photography from online and off. Shortly thereafter, Paul Cloutier came on board, helping build a system to manage submissions. When Heather, Derek, and Paul mapped out what they wanted to build to support JPG 2.0, they came up with the plan for 8020 Publishing. In a way, it was JPG that birthed 8020 Publishing. So it's only fair that JPG be our first release.

There are things about JPG that will be changing: We're moving away from print on demand and toward traditional magazine printing and distribution, so we can offer subscriptions and cheaper cover prices. We'll be printing bigger issues that include more pages. And, for the first time, we'll be accepting advertising and, as a result, paying our contributors.

And there are things about JPG that are not changing (and never will!): The magazine is still about the love of photography - the kind of photography you get when you care about the moment more than the camera. And Heather, Derek, and Paul are all still involved. And we're still all about giving amazingly talented online photographers new ways to get seen, published, and now paid!

We're very excited about this, and we hope you are, too. Stay tuned for more details and the official JPG relaunch!
